RETROARCADE.COM was founded and entirely developed in May of 1999 by one person,
Russ Melanson. Some of the content was taken from Russ' Classic Arcade Games site,
which was part of his personal homepage. RETROARCADE.COM prides itself in being one
of the few remaining gaming-related sites on the internet to not expose its users to
advertisements. If you appreciate this, drop me a note and let me know. I've
worked really hard on this site and when someone tells me they like it, it makes
it all worthwhile. To those of you that've sent me comments and questions, thank
you ALL for your time, and please feel free to email me any time. :)
History
Some of the content for this site was created in 1996, when it lived on
www.primenet.com - where Russ started his original website - at that time
basic HTML was only known to the true web geeks. Now that its growing more
and more every day, it seems a little less remarkable, especially with tools
like FrontPage and HomeSite that will let anyone with a design idea publish
it to the web. Not that there's anything wrong with that - that's how many
of the original pages on this site were created. Since then, they have been
totally rewritten to eliminate the inneficient HTML those programs created.
This was done to provide a better and faster experience for you - to make the
pages load faster and look better. :)
Now that Russ is working in the web industry as a professional, this site has
improved greatly. The site now takes advantage of a database for high score
information and top ten information, and soon will have even more information
online. This makes the site much easier to maintain and much more efficient.
Future
RETROARCADE.COM still has a long way to go. Theres a lot of neat pages here
now but there's room for a lot more, all it takes is time and effort. Please
bear with me, and slowly but surely lots of high quality content will appear
here and stay here. I will strive to provide a focal reference point for classic
arcade game information and other videogame-related stuff. Even though my
to-do list is miles long, I'm still open to suggestions about pages you'd like
to see or subjects you'd like covered. If you have any suggestions at all,
please mail me and let me know.
I may not respond immediately, as my day job keeps me busy and let's face it,
nobody wants to do their job 24 hours a day - so if I'm doing web development
all day long sometimes it's a drag to do it when I get home. But I will read
it and consider anything, and if you come up with a great idea I'll also give
you credit for your idea on the site, and who knows, maybe you can even help
contribute to the site. :)
This site costs me money every month and I make absolutely no money off of it -
I think a few of you have gotten the impression that this is a commercial business.
It's not - it's just a hobby of mine and I like sharing my knowledge and interest.
Anyway, if you really like this site and want to give something back or help me out,
I am an electronic musician and I have free MP3 files online at mp3.com that anyone
can download and listen to. If you like electronic music (dance, trance, techno,
etc) and you like my site, please go to my page on mp3.com and listen to a few of
my songs. I think they're all pretty decent, and they're all free, so you can
afford to spend a little time surfing for free music, can't you? :)
